The NBA could have terminated the CBA by referring to force majeure events. The current agreement runs until the 2023/24 season and provides for a mutual opt-out after the 2022/23 season. The NBA and nbPA have reached an agreement to extend the window that allows the league to end the collective bargaining agreement in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, according to ESPN`s Adrian Wojnarowski. The NBA`s Board of Governors, made up of the NBA`s 30 owners and their representatives, as well as League Commissioner Adam Silver, held a conference call this afternoon and the agreement will now allow the 2020/21 season to begin on Dec. 22. The union voted late last week to tentatively approve the league`s plan to play a 72-game game plan next season, starting Dec. 22. At the time, the NBPA Stakeholder Representatives Council said some additional details still needed to be negotiated, but that they were confident that agreement would be reached on these remaining issues. According to the revised schedule, the regular season ends in mid-May, the playoffs end in July.
This will allow players to compete in next year`s Summer Olympics, which will begin on July 23 and run until August 8. The result of the AFN vote does not make the December 22 launch date official. As the union hinted in a statement confirming the news, additional financial and logistical details have yet to be negotiated. However, both sides are confident that agreements can be reached on these issues. In 2005, players received 57% of the revenue, and from the new CBA they receive about 49-51% of the turnover. This latest agreement started with the 2017/18 season and runs until 2023/24, with a mutual opt-out after 2022/23   The salary cap did not vary much between the 1999 and 2005 versions of the KNA. In exchange for approval of the player`s controversial age, players received a slightly higher percentage of the league`s revenue as a result of the new deal.
In addition, the league`s maximum salary has decreased slightly compared to the 1999 CBA. As part of the 2011 CBA, players received a lower percentage of the league`s revenue. The agreement is submitted to a vote of the League`s Board of Governors. In subsequent tariff periods, the salary cap and tax level increase by at least 3% compared to the pre-season and by a maximum of 10%. .
